![]() Crossing the Bay of Biscay on the Pride of Bilbao I am attempting to resurrect my skills in black & white photography, developing and printing, but using digital images and computer software rather than the traditional 'wet' methods. In a previous existence I had studied the work of Ansel Adams and in particular his 'Zone System'. In a way, digital photography gives the opportunity to try to put the theory into practice in a much more realistic way than working with rolls of 35mm film ever did. Since in particular joining Digital Monochrome Learning Forum and latterly subscribing to Black & White Photography, I have become more and more fascinated by the subtlety of tones and textures possible in a monochrome image. One source of inspiration is Paul Gallagher and his sweeping seashore images. Lacking the opportunity of such sweeping vistas, I reversed the process and tried to capture tones/textures in microcosm by zooming in on a beach/sea interface. ![]() Below (and left) are some of my monochrome works (pretentious - moi?). An ever expanding number of images can also be seen on my Gallery in the Black & White album. ![]() Strolling down a side street in

tried to capture the moment... Not much light about, so f4, 1/30sec,
